January saw Simple and Scubazoos' newest addition, Sri Jiva Southall, head over to Mumbai to film everything from the completion of the 5 star Four Seasons Hotel to the city's poverty riddled slums and environmental pollution. Over the course of the 10 day shoot Simple and Sri filmed every one of the over 400 Four Seasons staff members along with the development of the hotel, and every aspect of Four Seasons daily life which have been edited to create a punchy and fun set of in-house films.
Mumbai is a densely populated city of extremes with abject poverty and spectacular wealth existing sometimes side by side. Over several days Simple & Sri explored the city in an effort to capture its real life characters and daily activities. Subjects included pavement poultry slaughter shops, rat infested slums and streets strewn with rubbish and excrement. These often gruesome yet photogenic and colour saturated images were contrasted with grandiose and beautiful colonial buildings such as the Victoria train station, the bustling central cricket park plus the Crawford and "Thieves" Markets which sold everything and anything. Certainly a trip to remember and a city marked for more Scubazoo filming and photography in the future.
